Volleyball Strength and Movement Classes

An event every week that begins at 6:45pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, repeating until August 30, 2018

An event every week that begins at 11:00am on Saturday, repeating until August 30, 2018

This program is designed for club level volleyball players. We offer regular strength and conditioning classes.

Athletes are able to choose which days of the week they want to attend. This adds flexibility into their schedule and allows you to coordinate your workouts and your other commitments.

The focus of the training is to help develop complete athletes. A complete athlete is someone who is mobile, stable, fast, agile, strong, and healthy.

We put all athletes through our testing protocol. Athletes we be assessed on their mobility, stability, posture, strength, speed, vertical, and much more. This information helps us establish some performance related goals.

The training sessions will be lead as a group, however individual adjustments to the training will be made so that all athletes will be appropriately challenged.

There is both a Junior and Senior Program. The Junior Program is for athletes 14 years old or younger. The Senior Program is for athletes 15 to 18 years old.

The Junior and Senior programs are run at the same time, however athletes are separated and grouped based on age, gender, and development level.

All athletes will receive their own workout programming where we will be tracking their results from the workouts.

The Trainers

We believe strength and movement training is highly technical. This is why we maintain a high coach to athlete ratio and work hands-on with the athletes during the training sessions.

The program is directed by coach Reid Hall. Reid is a former Team Canada Beach Volleyball Athlete. He has over 10 years of both volleyball coaching and strength and conditioning coaching experience. Our team of strength and conditioning coaches are all highly qualified and and knowledgeable about volleyball.

Tuesdays- 6pm to 7pm
Wednesdays- 6pm to 7pm
Thursdays- 6pm to 7pm
Saturdays- 11am to 12:00pm

New This Year

We are excited to partner with 2012 Beach Volleyball Olympian Martin Reader. Martin will be helping out on occasion with the strength and conditioning but he will also be offering a program called The OFFBall Athlete. This program will be run immediately after a selected number of the workouts where he will be leading the athletes through nutrition, mobility, and mindset sessions. This will be an additional program and the exact details will be announced soon.

Team Training

One of the best ways to build a strong culture and cohesion in a team is to train together. The programming will be developed based on the age and specific needs of the athletes.

Athletes go through the Matrix 3 stage development model which helps ensure improvements are made.

Stage 1- Evaluation

Athletes will be assessed and screened to identify movement restrictions and areas of potential injury. This helps the coach modify the athletes training accordingly. They will also be put through a series of tests to identify their baseline strength, power, speed, agility and conditioning levels. These tests will be specific to the sport. Athletes will be re-evaluated so that progress can be tracked.

Stage 2- Preparation

After the athletes have been evaluated it is time to physically prepare their bodies so that they can make big-time improvements. The focus of this phase is to improve mobility restrictions, muscular dysfunctions, and build strength. This stage is essentially developing the foundation so that BIG-TIME improvements can be made. You can not build a big beautiful building on a weak foundation.

Stage 3- Domination

After the athletes have been properly prepared they are ready to CRUSH IT. In the domination phase there is an increased training intensity and complexity of the
exercises. This stage is where the athletes will really see a big increase in performance.

The 3 stage model is adapted based of your teams specific needs and schedule.

Matrix Online Training

You do not live close to The Athlete Matrix?

Don’t worry, we have you covered.

If you live within 90 minutes of The Athlete Matrix we recommend you coming to the facility on an occasional basis. We will supplement your training with online workout programming so that you can be getting the majority of your workouts done at a convenient location.

The first step is to come down to The Athlete Matrix and be assessed, taught exercise execution, and how to properly perform a workout program. After that, you can begin training on your own. You can book in to come to The Athlete Matrix as frequently as you like to learn new exercises, be reevaluated, and taught the progressions to your program.

Here is an example…

You live in Barrie and it is unrealistic for you to make it to The Athlete Matrix more than 1 time per week. Each week you will have 4 workouts. You will perform 3 workouts on your own and 1 workout at The Athlete Matrix. When you come to The Matrix you will perform a workout, taught the intensity that you should be training at, and also coached so that your exercise execution is at a high level. You then have 3 workouts to perform on your own so that you can be getting in the appropriate volume of training to make some awesome improvements.
